InstaMAT 2D painting
The July update adds painting directly on UV maps in a dedicated 2D viewport.
Abstract's July 2026 update to InstaMAT adds 2D painting, so you can paint directly on UV maps (the flattened layout of a model's surface) in a dedicated 2D viewport, with UDIM support. Symmetry, lazy stroke, curves and procedural masking carry over from the 3D painting mode. The update also speeds up baking and autosaving and adds new procedural nodes, including environment map baking. The bigger story for a small team is the license: Abstract's Pioneer tier is free with no feature limits for individuals and businesses under $100K a year in revenue, with attribution required when you share work. That makes it one of the few full texturing suites a solo dev can use commercially at no cost. Expect a learning curve if you have never used node-based materials.
