Create Free 3D AI Game Assets with Autodesk's Wonder 3D

cinema 4dtripo 3dhy-3dunity 6wonder 3d

Brand new video up on the Infinite Detail YT channel breaking down Autodesk’s freshly shipped AI 3D mesh generator called Wonder 3D.

Honestly my first reaction was mild skepticism..

I also assumed it would be locked to using Autodesk products like Maya, but I was wrong.. it is truly standalone and works just fine creating meshes and simple props you can bring to Blender/Unreal.

And, after spending some time in the platform I think the more interesting story beyond what shipped in this 1.0 version, isn't the quality of the generations at the moment, it's something sitting right there in the UI that suggests where they're taking this.

But first here's the weekly roundup of changes in tools and technology that are shaping the future of making games.

NEW TECH UPDATES

Weekly Roundup

1. Tripo P1.0 is Live

Tripo P1.0 just dropped and with it they’re introducing Smart Mesh which is what they refer to as “clean pro-grade topology for games and web apps“.

In my tests image to 3d meshes took literally 2-3 seconds to generate which is absolutely mind blowing. They also attempt to concentrate topology closer to the areas that that require higher density.

It does seem to output slightly less accuracy in these initial tests vs just throwing its Ultra model at the task BUT if you’re primarily using it for block-ins like I am now, this is beautifully fast and keeps the models slightly lighter weight for just filling out your scene in Unreal/Blender.

Their DCC bridge also offers 2 second imports which is a nice QOL feature. I’d wager it took me around 1-2 minutes to bring an image into Tripo, generate it using Smart Mesh, PBR texture it, and get it actually into my Unreal scene.

Certainly not perfect, but still wild.

If you’d like a proper breakdown and walkthrough of this latest Tripo release just hit reply to this email and let me know.

2. C4D + iPAD + AI 3D Generation built-in

Maxon announced a Cinema 4D iPad app at Mobile World Congress last week, alongside a Tencent partnership that's worth equal attention:

HY 3D (Tencent's in-house AI 3D generator, trained on their own game library) is baked directly into the workflow from day one. Text prompt or image reference in, base 3D mesh with UVs out.

Both the iPad app + HY 3D integration will be introduced in late 2026. Additional technical details and rollout timing will be shared closer to the release.

Pricing isn't confirmed but it'll almost certainly be credit-based. Maxon was careful to call it "selectable" in that you can choose to opt in or not.

Two things worth noting.

  1. Tencent training on their own game assets is meaningful (ethically and otherwise). This means the model wasn’t scraped on random internet geometry, but rather production-validated models optimized for real-time.

  2. This is the first time a major DCC suite has shipped AI 3D generation as a native (AFAIK), first-party feature rather than a third-party plugin.

3. GDC - loads of announcements incoming

There are a number of teased announcements/demos coming this week at GDC (March 9-13th). A few I’m keeping an eye on are:

  • Unity AI Beta: debuting at GDC CEO Matt Bromberg pre-announced: "prompt full casual games into existence with natural language only, native to our platform." This is Unity's big AI authoring push for 2026, going from prototype to finished product without coding.

  • Tencent AI Summit: Tencent is running a full AI Summit on March 10, separate from the main GDC floor. Sessions cover multi-agent scene layout, AI-generated animation (including Kung Fu motion systems), logic-driven gameplay, and their "ASI World" pipeline.. which reportedly generates a complete SRPG from a single prompt (yikes). Also previewing AI Companions with natural language understanding. Worth watching for what filters down into accessible tools.

  • AWS Agentic Arcade: AWS showcasing agent-assisted game production at their City View event. Includes AI-powered game streaming demo and "agentic AI" for game development workflows.

  • Roblox "AI-Powered Prototyping with MCP": Roblox presenting a session specifically on using Model Context Protocol for AI-powered game prototyping. Also: "The Next Wave of Game Development Is Small, Agile, Social, and Live" will cover a session arguing that teams under 10 people are capturing 25M+ concurrent users by prioritizing social loops and modern tooling.

Will keep an eye out for these announcements + any talks making it online and drop them in next week’s newsletter.

NEW VIDEO RELEASED
Wonder 3D by Autodesk Released

I'll be straight with you, Wonder 3D is not the best AI 3D tool available right now.

Simple silhouettes work pretty well while anything complex struggles. Image to 3D only has single-view input which is a real limitation compared to platforms that let you feed in multiple angles.

That said, I did find it quite interesting that while you’re locked to just the Wonder 3D generative model at the moment… it sits inside of a dropdown box (that does nothing atm).

You don't ship a dropdown for one model. That's a placeholder (and it's not a subtle one.)

If Autodesk's actual play here is a model-agnostic platform (surprising, but likely) and it’s one where you can eventually choose whether you're running Tripo, Rodin, or something else underneath, that's a different product entirely.

Now while that is surprising from Autodesk, for the space in general this is nothing new, platforms like Scenario have allowed you to do that for ages.

Still, from a company that's spent decades embedding itself into nearly every major studio pipeline, this early version starts to look less like a finished tool and more like the foundation of something bigger.

It may never be the best, or first, but it might be the most at-hand for many gamedevs in the future if only because of procurement processes inside of studios alone.

At 10 cents a generation it's also cheap enough to just experiment with in the meantime.

I've been using generative models like the ones coming out of Wonder 3D to rough in scene blocking in Unreal before committing to any real modeling, and for that it holds up fine.

Will be keeping an eye on all things GDC this week and demo’ing Tripo’s latest drop.

P.S. You may have noticed the rebrand.. Future Familiar is where I’ll keep my art and worldbuilding home on Instagram, Infinite Detail is where the gamedev stuff will live going forward. Felt right to give each its own identity as both keep growing. Thanks for being here either way. 🤍
